Eyeliner was first used in Ancient Middle East and Mesopotamia. Egyptians only found eyeliner and they used Lead, Copper ore and Antimony to produce them.

Dangerous ingredients used in eyeliner:

Beauty has a price. Some of the ingredients of eyeliner from one well-know brand include,

Propylene glycol which is used in antifreeze, triethanolamine, oleyl alcohol, magnesium aluminium silicate, silicate stearate, butylparaben, mica and titanium dioxide and all other chemical listed are toxins.

Environment Dangers:

Eyeliner contains nanoparticles which are highly dangerous to the environment. These nanoparticles greatly increase their toxicity. Nanoparticles are made of silver, copper oxide and zinc oxide which are very harmful to aquatic life. Beside these things the most harmful part of eyeliner is the packing. The plastic is usually thrown away and ends up in the ocean and landfills. These plastic breaks into small pieces called nurdles which are consumed by the marine animals as food and thousands of animals kill each year.

Health Risk:

The health risk associated with eyeliner are very limited. They won’t cause much health problems. But certain eyeliner contain toxic metals such as mercury which cause some allergic reactions, skin irritation and neurotoxicity problems. Bronopol in eyeliner may cause blindness and harmful in large amounts. Other eyeliner can cause cancer, infertility and harm the immune system. This can also affect the eye contact.

A 2011 report found that heavy metals are all too common in some make-up. The health risk of hidden heavy metals in face make-up looked at 49 popular make-up products.
